With the design of the Wynn Palace, Wynn Resorts set out to create the most beautiful hotel in the world – a masterpiece that would set a new standard for luxury and elegance. The Wynn Palace is the culmination of more than 45 years in hospitality – a colossal feat of design that’s both massive in scale and exacting in detail.
Set in a commanding position in Cotai, the property includes a podium building and an X-shaped, gold-hued hotel tower, surrounded by a performing lake and superbly landscaped grounds. The resort offers 1,706 exquisitely furnished rooms, suites and villas with an unsurpassed guest experience.

Demanding excellence
LEO A DALY served as the architect of the Wynn Palace hotel tower, which houses guestrooms, suites, villas and private gaming areas. The design team worked closely with the client’s in-house architecture and interior design teams to turn the client’s vision for the tower into reality. LEO A DALY provided the architectural skeleton for this dynamic hospitality environment.

A local presence
Designing a project of this magnitude outside of the United States can have its challenges for a U.S. firm, but LEO A DALY’s extensive experience with high-rises and work in China laid the groundwork for a successful project. The willingness of staff to temporarily relocate also had a major impact on the progression and completion of the project.
After the design phase of the Wynn Palace was complete, three LEO A DALY staff members spent two years living in Macau making sure all the work was completed in accordance with the design documents – a key proposition in a country where the construction process involves more interpretation by the contractor than it does in the U.S.

Thorough knowledge of the drawings allowed the design team to quickly assess the construction methods in order to make suggestions if the methods didn’t match the design documents. This continuous engagement and supervision ensured the design met the owner’s vision and the project’s many moving parts fit together cohesively.

The design team led bi-weekly coordination meetings with the owner, major design consultants and contractor to keep the project on-schedule and on-budget. These meetings continued for nearly four years through design and construction, resulting in an exquisitely executed Wynn Palace hotel tower completed without missing a single design deadline.

Inspired by flowers, the design pays tribute to petals of all shapes and sizes. Look for details in the wallpaper and carpets, as well as elaborate floral displays — all designed by Steve Wynn and New York City-based talent Preston Bailey.
When it comes to entertainment, the star of the show is the eight-acre Performance Lake, which springs to life every 20 to 30 minutes. Best viewed at night, the choreographed light and water show features 5,505 multi-colored beams that shoot into the sky for an elaborate display. Adding to the experience, Wynn Palace erected a SkyCab gondola (where you can view the show) to circle the lake.
The Macau hotel also doubles as an art gallery, with 18th-century tapestries here and Pop Art sculptures there — a feast for the eyes around every corner. The jewel in the crown is a show-stopping quartet of Buccleuch vases, from the Qing Dynasty, worth about $12.7 million.
Of course, it wouldn’t be a Wynn resort without an excellent array of culinary experiences. Wynn Palace is home to 11 cafés and restaurants — all with imaginative interior designs that transport you to exotic new worlds.
